About Holyhead Towing
Founded in the early 1960s by John Meade, as a subsidiary to the Holyhead Boatyard, Holyhead Towing started with one small coastal tug and developed into an operator of larger coastal and deep sea tugs. Since the late 1980s the company has focused on shallow draught multipurpose tugs and workboats in support of the dredging and marine civil engineering industries.
As well as using proven vessel designs, Holyhead Towing has successfully developed and built its own designs of boats to try to anticipate the demands of developing markets. As a result, the company now works on large and varied projects in a wide range of locations.
The company is also involved in three joint ventures with:
Jifmar Offshore Services
The leading operator of multicats and workboats in France, Jifmar has a proven track record in support of dredging and marine construction projects. Jifmar also has long term contracts with major oil companies to support their SBM and hose handling work on the coast of Southern France. Based in Marseille, the company currently operates throughout the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa.
Based in the port of Aktau, Caspiisky Buksir has a fleet that includes ice class anchor handling tugs and multicats and operates in the Caspian Sea in support of oilfield developments.
A Falkland Islands based joint venture that includes both Fortuna and Holyhead Towing, Workboat Services has a coastal shipping contract with the Falkland Islands Government. The Landing Craft ‘Concordia Bay’ is used for the contract, ferrying passengers, vehicles and cargo between East and West Falkland and offshore islands around the Falklands.
Holyhead Towing is part of the Holyhead Group of companies that includes Holyhead Marine Services – who specialise in design, construction and refit of vessels for customers such as the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Ministry of Defence and other government agencies as well as governments and commercial customers worldwide.
